Disconnecting to Reconnect

Duxie

Once again, I decided to uninstall the social media apps that were stealing my time and leaving me in a constant state of anxiety, fear, and anger, so I could refocus my attention on the things that actually bring me joy.

I’ve gone back to playing some of the indie games I bought during the last Steam sale, but mostly I’ve been playing A Big Walk with some of my closest friends. Among them are friends who hadn’t played anything in years and who saw this game as an opportunity to stay connected across Brazil, Spain, and Germany. There’s something really special about that one hour each week when we can get lost on the island together, or simply stop for some small talk while watching the sunrise.

I’ve also started working again on an idea for a deck-building game that I’ve been obsessing over for years, seriously, no exaggeration, it’s been about ten years now. At some point, I’d love to share some updates about it here on Wasdux.

Another thing I haven’t told many people about is that I’ve been taking some music production lessons with João Villaça. I randomly met him in a WhatsApp group for people selling things they no longer wanted. He was selling some vinyl records, and judging by his collection, I figured he had to be a DJ. We started chatting, and I mentioned that I’d had this old dream of learning music production and how synthesizers work. He immediately said he could teach me.

Every lesson leaves me blown away by how much this guy knows. I hope that one day I’ll be able to make music like he does.

And while we’re at it, go buy his album Ready for the Future.
