Big Disgrace
The first time I heard “Shy Girl” was completely by chance on YouTube. I was browsing through my recommended videos when I was hooked by a thumbnail featuring heavy makeup and exaggerated hairstyles in a kind of rococo circus aesthetic. From the highly dramatic opening, with vocals reminiscent of Cyndi Lauper and Kate Bush, an unmistakably ’80s atmosphere, and unexpectedly frantic, theatrical choreography, it was hard to look away. After all, this was an incredibly meticulous production, where every detail seemed carefully crafted and could easily escape the eyes of a less attentive viewer.
The screen was flooded with yellowish pastel colors and extravagant costumes as Michelle Buzz invited us to stop being shy and run the world.
From that moment on, “Shy Girl” kept echoing in my mind. To my surprise, other music videos that were just as elaborate, if not more so, followed one after another, accompanied by equally powerful songs. Haute & Freddy became one of my favorite discoveries of 2025, culminating in the release of the album Big Disgrace in 2026.
At a time when great disasters dominate the news, this album becomes a grand celebration of free expression, inviting shy girls, freaks, and weirdos to dance the pain away in the fields of Versailles.
I loved the entire album, so rather than giving it a single five-star rating, I decided to distribute the five stars among my top five songs.
